Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 50 -- PETITION SIGNATURE VERIFICATION

SPONSOR:  Coleman (Seigfreid)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Elections by a vote of 11 to 0.

This bill requires an election authority to complete its
verification of initiative and referendum petition signatures no
later than 30 days from the date the authority receives the
petition from the Secretary of State.  Currently, the authority
must complete the verification within two weeks.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill is necessary to give
election authorities more time to verify signatures on initiative
and referendum petitions.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Coleman.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
